It is good to learn about potential problems, but much better to hear about none! Thank you posting.

Once you get used to it, it really is a much more logical way to set them. After all, what do you need to see in them? Other cars.

I have found the easiest way to set this up is to lean your head against the drivers window, then adjust the left mirror until the left rear corner of your car just begins to come into view. Then lean so that you are directly in the center of the car, then adjust the right mirror until the right rear corner of the car begins to come into view.

Now when a car is coming up from behind, as it leaves the sight of the rear view mirror, it shows up in the side one. I never get surprised any more.
I concur--this method really works well! Actually, Car Talk did a walkthrough of this method on their website recently, with pics and diagrams and so forth. Here's the link to Step 1 (of 4--just click through):

Kart, I read something interesting about proper setting of rear view mirrors some time back. The article stated most people set their mirrors improperly. And according to the article I was setting mirrors the normal but wrong way. I need to find it. But if you google "proper setting for rear view mirrors" you may find it. Bottom line, most people set mirror while sitting normally in driver seat. Article stated to reduce blind spot to a minimum, while sitting in driver seat, move your head to where it is just about to touch driver door window and set mirror with head there. Then set right mirror with head leaning same distance to the right. With mirrors set this way, along with using rear view mirror, you will reduce blind spot area. (And little convex mirrors are another alternative.)

It sure is nice to read something nice now and then. I should have mine next week. Mini has it down to get their buyers pumped up so much that by delivery they will be at the will of the dealer....."Ok, ok, just give me the car already, I don't care how much it is".....that's where I'm at now :-)

I will hit 10,000 this week after 6 months. Only issue has been one chrome piece which was finally replaced. I can 100% agree with both your top 10 lists.

I feel the same as you do about the car. Damn cup holders suck!

Yeah, if you look there is a post about blind spots that I posted a few days ago.
There is a video for sitting your mirrors so that you can see your blind spots.
And I've done this and it works amazingly. AnnArrogance is referring to the same video.

Give it a shot!

Butch passed the 10,000 mile mark today on the way to Reno and I remember reading this update while it was being built. The OP's experience is rather spot on with mine as far as the likes - except I don't have the automatic transmission.

My only annoyance with the CM is the clutch on steep inclines. Other than that I'm really happy with it and it has never gone back to the dealer. In addition to a couple of mods, I have done two oil changes and rotated tires myself, that's it. Hopefully the next 100 to 140k are as uneventful as the first 10k.

Congrats on the 10k mark without issues. Let's motor!

OP here. I'm now at about 33,000 miles. Still no problems except for: (1) ran out of gas when the onboard showed 60 miles left for range, (2) strange pop from stereo system two separate times, and (3) bulge in one of the original equipment run-flat tires. I resolved the side-view mirror issue with a Multivex (birdseye) mirror.

Still loving the car!

I ordered it from Moss - they called it the birdseye mirror. But it looks like they don't carry the product anymore. And the multivex site is down, too. Hmmmm.

If you do find them: they didn't have a Countryman size. I ordered the one for a 2011 Clubman. Not perfect, but it works.
