MINI Cooper Mess

I have a 2002 Mini Cooper that I bought on June 17, 2006 and I love it! BUT....it is having some problem & the guy I took it to said it sounds like the Transmission...Because its making this funky noise, its almost like -remember when you were a kid and you'd clip a poker card to your bicycle's wheel and it'd make that clicking noise- it does that!!

Needless to say, I was not happy when I priced the Transmission $4,790.00 and that was just for the part, for the entire job its around $7,000.00 just to fix the problem, and from all the people I have talked to that have experience with fixing Mini Cooper's they all have the same problem...So unless you have the money to maintain them, GET RID OF IT!

My Mini is going bye-bye within the next two weekends!! I jumped into that loan because I loved the car a little too much, lol I do not have the money to afford its maintainence!!!:impatient

I wouldn't call a new transmission "maintenance." But, I hear ya.

Researching into the "Midlands transmission" will show tons of information on bad transmission in 02-04 Coopers. In 05 the Cooper got a much better gearbox and so far I haven't heard of any failed gearboxes.

Get a second opinion.
I have heard CV joints make a noise very similar to what your describing. Typically you hear it when turning. If the joint has really gotten loose, you will hear it during hard acceleration or in heavy engine breaking.

I would love to be right about this, but I haven't seen or heard yours.....just going by what you typed.

Who did you take it to? Was it someone who's experienced with working on Minis? Don't jump the gun yet...get a second opinion like 4xAAA said. We'd hate to see ya go so soon.
