Holla from the Yay Area!
Holla from the Yay Area!
After months of pining, dreaming, and just plain torturing myself, I finally ordered my new Mini!
I first went to Mini SF, where I had my test drive a few weeks ago but was immediately told that they had better things to do than sell me a car at MSRP. They would not bend from their $2500 markup!!!
I then drove to East Bay Mini and what a difference 40 miles makes! Their motto is MSRP so there was absolutely no talk about markups, pricing, mandatory dealer accessories or any other nonsense. Jesse and I spec’d out my baby in a matter of minutes (I’ve been obsessively building the car I want on the Mini website for weeks), filled out all the forms, signed all the paperwork, and East Bay was ready to submit my order in well under half an hour! In fact, I remember thinking just how anticlimactic it all felt, no fanfare, no pageantry, just a pleasant experience throughout.
But, like the song says, waiting is the hardest part and I’m already anxiously awaiting Jesse’s call with my production number so I can start haranguing the 866-ASK-MINI people (as you can see, there’s a strong OCD theme running through this post).
Meanwhile, I’m formulating a plan wherein I will visit every dealer in the area and procure as many test drives as possible to help tide me over. Can’t wait to join the motoring!

Glad to hear about the abuse you received at the first dealer. It's crap like that which keeps the resale value of used Minis so high. Buying used instead of a new provides a way of eluding that sort of treatment.
