Retrohasen - Thanks for the pics! That's exactly what I was thinking for trips with the cargo box. Have you run into any issues using Thule Racks? I read somewhere the load rating is with aftermarket racks is only 60lbs. or so. I was thinking of going with the factory racks but am not thrilled about putting holes in the roof. Just curious what your experience has been going the route you did. Also, I am totally impressed with your inventory of what fits!

I am sure we had more than 60lbs up there and it didn't do any damage. I am not crazy about the Thule racks. I broke one of the locks while tightening it by hand. It was replaced by the retailer, though. I prefer Yakima, but they don't work well on the Mini. This is the only solution I could find that doesn't require holes in my roof.
The box is pretty quiet and I had it over 95 once and it was fine ( I was passing a semi on a two-lane road).
I don't have a sunroof, but it shouldn't be a problem.

Well I got my new MINI a week ago. Have a 3 year old and a 10 month old. Have both of their seat and a stroller in there so we can go places. They love it and the 3 year tell me I am a race-car driver now.
It is a great car even the kid love it and everyone fits nicely. Oh the parents are me 6' and wife 5'10" still room for the diaper bag.
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the info. In searching for more info I came across a thread that mentioned this rack from Mont Blanc, claims to hold up to 110lbs.

I think I may give it a shot, course need to get the Mini first!

One more post to help convince you. I have a 7 year old and with three of us in the car its a blast. I have relatively long legs so a kid behind me needs to have long enough legs so their feet are on the ground which gives me enouh leg room. go for it!!

+1 to it being a great kid car, we have a Honda Odyssey as well but I think that our 8 year old daughter likes the MINI a bit more as she is closer to the action, has a better view, it's 'more fun', etc. We have done a bit of travelling in it and it kind of adds an element of adventure missing from van trips, where you are like 'sure, toss the barbecue in, who cares...'.

We found that the booster seat did not work as well as the full seat because the booster seemed prone to scootching forward.

the booster seat fits perfectly fine. We have two minis and plan on keeping them when we start having kids

Congrat, you will be very happy. Do you know how you want to spec out the MINI?
Good luck on the wait.
