MINI in the snow?

I just moved from Fl to Pa. After getting settled in and the holidays blow over I want to buy a MINI.

In researching, everyone I talked to said they love (or loved) theirs. I had one person say that they loved it but, got rid of it because of its poor handling in the snow. That was the only person I had ever talked with that had had theirs in the snow. Since I have never driven in the snow (except for one brief drive) I have nothing to compare it to.

I am curious, what others think that about how the MINI handles in the snow.

I am in a suburb of Philly and I am told the snow isn't too bad.

Any/All thoughts are welcome!

Put a good set of snow tires on it and, unless there's more than 5 inches of snow, you will be passing SUV's!! ( I recommend you take some practice drives in an empty, snowy parking lot first tho. )

The MINI is no problem whatsoever in the snow. Do like he said and get some quality snow tires/spare wheels and go nuts in a parking lot to gauge your comfort level with ASC/DSC and stopping distances.
I bought tires and wheels from TireRack and love them in the snow and slush. I got the 16" steelies and this year I added some coopersport.ca wheel center caps and they look great.

We should get our chance here tomorrow or at the weekend...

I too have had great success in the snow. I have all-season tyres and have not had any trouble. But heed the warning about depth. If it gets to be much more than 5", your MINI quickly becomes a snowplow. But for "normal" snow driving, meaning the roads may be plowed, but still icy, the MINI is great!

Driving in winter is easy as can be. No problems except the aforementioned depth issue. If you drive on unplowed roads a lot, then it'll be an issue for you.

I have 15" steel rims with Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires for the winter months, and the car is an absolute TANK! it can get through anything. I have full confidence in the winter, be it through ice, slush or snow.

Get snow tires, and live it up.

I have fond memories of driving our old Mazda 626 around Boulder, CO during the winter, except for the deep snow that got me stuck a few times resting on the undercarriage instead of the tires....

Don't use Yoko spec2s in the snow/ice... you might attack a Ford Explorer... haha (I did!)

Throw some S-Lites on with a pair of Blizzak tires and youre set! Its a GREAT combo for a winter MINI!

The Queen has spoken! Long live the Queen. Thanks, Tori, that's my exact winter driving setup.

Well, I think that seals the deal. I wanted one, but got worried about the snow. I dont think I have anything to worry about (as long as I get some Blizzaks). I cant wait to get mine and post some pics.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I really appreciate it.

Well, snow in Cali and snow in Canada are two different things I think.
