Lights
Lights
Just got our new Cooper S. I have a question about the lights. It it normal for the parking lights to stay on after the ignition is switched off if the driving light switch is the On or Automatic positions? I have to turn the lights to the Off position to get the parking lights to go off. In either On or Auto mode the main beams go off when the ignition is swithced off. My dealer has not proved helpful yet with over the phone diagnosis.
How long do they stay on? I have heard that one of the programmable options is to have the lights stay on for 40 seconds - 2 or 3 minutes after the ignition is off.... You might want to search the existing threads for an earlier discussion about the programming options. My lights all go off (in auto mode) when the engine is shut down (except the dome light).

I had requested that the DRLs be programed "on", but that does not seem to be the case. My guess is that during setup the tech programed some funky Euro mode by accident. I am going to take it to the dealer next week.
If you leave the haedlight switch on, the headlights turn off but the parking lights stay on when you turn off the ignition switch. If you have the "follow me" headlights programmed, you will have to pull back on the headlight stalk, like if you wre going to flash your high beams at someone. The headlights will stay on for a programmed length of time, 30, 60 or 90 seconds, then turn off.
