Mini Cooper Special Tool

I need to replace my front axle & cv joint on my 2003. I am looking thru my Bentley Service manual and they recommend BMW tool # 24 8 120 Transmisson output flange seal protector. Has anyone done this and if so do you really need this tool and if so where can one get it. Ron
