Pretty funny. When I first got mine, it kind of bothered me when people would tell me it was cute. For a while I would say something about how it didn't drive like it looked. Over time my skin grew thicker.

That is a great story! It is cool how you have become converted with just one test drive. I too, fell in love at first drive with the MINI. I suspect most of us here on NAM would say the same thing.
Spread the good news amongst your friends and neighbors, who probably laughed at men driving MINI's right along side you!

Outstanding !
Welcome to NAM.
You are about to experience something truly remarkable. To truly enjoy it, you must wallow in the experience.
On our first motoring trip together, when I witnessed my wife (of 27 yrs) woo hooing at the top of her lungs while going through a tunnel . . . just for fun, I knew there was no turning back.
Our grown Daughters think the cheese has slid off our crackers.
But they haven't driven one yet.

I think you'll find that you're not the only one around here that had to overcome that false stereotype. I admit I felt kind of self-concious about buying a MINI until I really got in and drove one. Only in America, would such a fun car be labelled by some as a "chick car." It's probably because so many guys feel inadequate if they're driving something that doesn't resemble a semi-truck.Welcome to the MINI community
Didn't think the fine folks of the Big Apple would appreciate that much

Welcome ! You'll love being a 2-MINI couple... lots of fun ! Just be warned about all the detailing you'll end up with.
Not directed to you, mostly a rhetorical question. But I'm wondering... why do people see the MINI as a woman's car ? I don't think it has a feminine look or feel to it. It's not like it's a Pontiac Sunfire or a Chevy Cavalier or a Volkswagon Jetta (seems 90 percent of those drivers are women).
Has anyone ever done a poll on here to determine how many owners are male versus female ?

). I disagreed with him then and after having the fun of owning one I disagree even more. I think it's just the typical American macho attitude that you need a big, mean looking car or truck in order to "be a man." This attitude was far more prevalent when I lived in Utah (I guess us "girly" men here in DC are just more secure with our manhood). But every single passenger I have ever had, male and female, have loved my car. I haven't had one negative comment. So I think MINIs appeal equally to people of both genders. And when you look at the plethora of aftermarket tuners I think it is even more apparent that many MINI owners aren't just interested in having a "cute" car.
I'm a guy and I've owned a Jetta previously and it seems as though every car I like is a "chick car".
It doesn't bother me though. I always enjoy what I drive and I can't say that about most of the naysayers.
As for it being a cute car I'm still wondering how to feel about it. I mean, I sometimes go into the garage before bed and take a nice long look at the MINI and the word cute swirls around my own head so... lol. But I guess since the word feisty also swirls around my head, cute-n-feisty isn't all that bad.
My wife fell in love with the MINI at the test drive and if it wasn't for the fact her BMW is only about 2 years old, we would have already gotten another. Plus we do need something a little larger so we can't ace the BMW. So after consideration, we are aiming for the second MINI about a year from now.
(I think I will have the stack of mods sitting in the garage waiting for the next one though.

Hopefully, in the future there will be so many small cars on the road, that MINIs won't be the mini-est, nor will the boring and insulting "lady's" car comments continually pop up on sites like NAM...
