Yep, I agree... I hate departing with huge sums of cash at once, lol, but since a car is a pretty major purchase and you are stuck with the payment for however long, I decided to do it. I put $3000 down on top of the $500 deposit for a total of $3500 down. My payment is $329 a month.

Except that retailers typically pay a percentage to the credit company for every charge they accept. I believe 3% is fairly common, so on a $20k charge for a car, that would be an additional $600.

Wrote a check for my MINI. First new car I ever paid cash for, felt good. And boy the finance guy didn't like that!
