I got a sick speaker!

On the MINI i just purchased, i discovered that my driver side speaker (large) has a horrible buzzing sound. Since it's a 2002 and no longer under warranty, I'm not sure that it is salvagable. Since i'm new to the MINI scene...whats the best course of action i should take? Do i just go through a dealer..or is there another way that i am not aware of? Any help would be appreciated.

If you purchased it from a MINI dealer- I would think it would still be under manufacturer's warranty. Always check with them first- You wouldn't want to do anything to void a warranty.

It may actually be salvagable. I had the same thing in the passenger door. A little adjustment with a bit of felt tape behind the speaker to isolate it from the doorframe (performed by the dealer) fixed it and I haven't had a problem since.

I had a similar experience

and the dealer disassembled the door, glued back some sound material, reset the speaker and tightened it down - buzz was gone. No replacement needed.

Check with the dealer first.

I'll second the felt! I thought I'd blown a speaker, but it just really needed felt on the back side. Putting some dynomat on the door does a world of good too.
