Why life is so unfair that can't let get both?

On type of coverage and deductable,
but in my case, the difference was about $50/Month between an 06 MCS (new) and and 05 Vette Z06 (Used)

All things considered - I went with the MCS - a *lot* cheaper, more fun in daily driving and it has a useful amount of storage space (with the back seats folded down)

Hey, llcoyote,

Do you still read these replies? You shouldn't ask that kind of question here. See what happened? They forgot about you and started their own debate. Fortunately I see many posts that will be very helpful in your decision.

I say... get a TOYOTA Corolla or monthly pass for Metrolink!

I said Exige S, not the Exige. Exiges are a dime a dozen these days Exige S ... Lotus taking orders not ... high 60s.

You are correct ...

You ask which to get on a MINI board, what do you think the answer is going to be ... duh. Really impartial.

Ask the same on a Corvette board, I suspect it will be far worse with snide remarks about the funny clown cars.

Its just not the right kind of question to ask where the people your asking are fully vested in their acquisitions.

But there are a few of us out there who have direct experience with muscle and Mini, and can give a fair and balanced view. While there are things that my Mustang will always do better and be more fun doing it than my Mini, overall, the Mini is more of a fun all around car with quite the performance envelope. I'd hate to have to chose between the two.....

My Dear Dr. O ... of course you are excluded. My little bit of hyperbole is meant as a generalization. There are many ppl way off on the end of the curve here thinking MINIs created the roads, lakes, and oceans.

A fair and balanced view is, of course, the best.

I see the exact same thing on other boards such as the Elise, 997, M3, Corvette, etc. when I have time to check them out. Someone come in and asks such a question and the answers are obvious.

However, it is becoming more and more unsettling to keep hearing the same stuff over and over again how a MCS JCW is SO much better than ... whatever when the numbers just don't bear it out. Especially, after the R&T GTI test provided some humble pie. I have no clue, whatsoever, why anyone would even think of comparing a C6 or Z06.

However, as you say ... get a stripped down version, keep it under $30K and you get one FUN car for the money. I don't think anyone can deny that Just dont think its going to eat WRX STIs, Evos, and C6s for breakfast ... it aint going to happen.

With more and more hot hatches coming out, maybe the BMW 1 series, MINI may have a fun for its money. Even the Saturn Turbo Sky (forget the name) will have more power.

Minis corner better? No that is funny! A mini is way behind a Vette in cornering.

As the owner of both a '98 Corvette and an '06 MCS, I can tell you the Mini corners much better than the Vette. The Vette's rear end wants to break loose at speeds the Mini will just "hunker down" and keep on cornering. Once the road straightens out it's a different story...

Well, since this thread is still going, I'll make a comment. I sold my '95 convertible vette (port, polish, heads, cam, blah, blah blah) and replaced it with a convertible C5 with supercharger.

I LOVED my C5.

Having said that, I LOVE my mini. Unfortunately, I've been through 3 minis in 3 months. I'm with my final baby now. (an '08 cooper S)

Point is, the mini does handle great. I'm not going to compare the two because they're both spectacular in their own rights. Simply said though, the fun factor is WAY better in the mini.... and since I use it as a daily driver, fun factor is more important to me.

One day, I'll buy another vette but honestly, I think in my 45 years, I finally found a car that I'll keep for a long time regardless if I buy another vette.

Mark

a 98? It would still be better than a new mini. The C5 and C6 generation is no comparison. If the Vette breaks out in the rear it is due to power and the driver not knowing how to drive it properly. Do a search on skid pad and other handling tests.

Putting on flame proof suit:

To be honest corvettes are amazing cars. Minis handle great but to drive a vette with Z51 its a whole new experience. This is not to take away from the mini, which is one of the best front drive handlers out there, but they are 2 VERY different vehicles. They have very different layouts, very different prices, and very different missons.
