Hi all!
Hi all!
Hi all,
I've decided to become a member of this board mainly so I could ask some questions I have that are still unanswered.
Some, perhaps interesting, background on the MCSa's acquisition. Long story short, my fiancee's Acura Integra '00 got stripped. Imagine the interior of you car back to the bare metal. Seats, door moldings and whatever piece of plastic worth 50 cents, all gone. Engine, battery, tires, wheels, transmission, all intact. Insurance verdict: totalled. Got handed a cheque for a most fair sum. Thank you, 21st.
Being the economically sensible person I am (no, not "cheap", I said economically sensible), I figured the right thing to do was to get a good used commuter car for the money she received.
Apparently, women don't work that way...
After a few heated discussions, it was a phone conversation with my father that made me "understand". Women would not replace lost used shoes by buying used shoes and if my sick dog would be to die, I wouldn't replace it with another sick dog. Hmm... Yeah... I guess...
Anyhoo, she got a Cooper because it's cute and, although I was initially dead set against such a ridiculous choice, it has won me over. Yes, I admit it, it has. It's just too damn fun! Now we have a problem because I feel like having one just for myself, but I'm stuck driving my "good, economically sensible car" which I had promised myself to drive to the ground because that the economically sensible thing to do.
Dag nab it!!!
Couldn't they strip my Altima '97 instead?!

Wecome! I too am cheap, or whatever your nicer term for it was! I had a 95 Honda Prelude with only 82,000 miles and it was paid for. The Honda was a good car and with the low mileage had a lot of years left on it. Then I became obsessed with the mini. I tried to talk myself out of it, "I have a respectable car, no car payment, I am just being silly". Finally one day after telling my colleagues once again how much I wanted one, one of them said "why don't you just buy one and stop talking about it??" So I did!! My advice to you: just do it!!! Make youreslf happy and drive the car you really want.
GO FOR IT!!! Once you've been bitten by the MINI bug, that's it......
(Hey, Mini2di4, I also sold a low-mileage, paid off Honda--'96 Civic, 70,000 miles--when I got my MINI. Yep, got rid of the "sensible" car....sold it to a 70-yr old grandmother! Now I'm rocking it in my 2006 HB/S MCS!)

KitKat, great story!!!
Yes, you have discovered the secret about MINIs, one only known to people who have spent time in the driver's seat.....the car is awesome!!! Personally, I think life is too short to be spent in blandness AND I think it's time we let automakers know that we expect more from a car. Get a MINI when you can and get the best motoring value for your automotive dollar...that's the economically sensible approach and the best quality of life approach!!
