front defroster/de-fogger...

just took delivery last night - car is beautiful, no problems with delivery whatsover..

it had been raining alot.. was driving home at night (we went to dinner right after taking delivery) and noticed that it seemed to take forever for the defroster to remove the "fog" from the windshield... it did pretty well until it got down to this 2 circles of fog...

is there a trick?

Did you have the A/C on?

yes... we had A/C on... don't recall if it was on auto or not... we were experimenting and it was dark so it being the first time driving the MINI.. we were not entirely sure what we were doing...

do you think the two spots might have been caused by the A/C being on and shooting cold air against the windshield?

it seemed like when we'd hit the defrost button.. it would kinda take control of the HVAC system... might have even seen the A/C light go off at that point and the fans ran at quite a high speed...

If you have the a/c on and the temp pretty cool, then depending on the dewpoint outside, the A/C is actually cold enough to cause condensation to form. In those cases you would need to turn up the heat a bit to clear the windshield.

Or turn on the wipers.

When the defroster is turned on the A/C is activated. This is done because part of the A/C process is to send air through a "air dryer." As Dave pointed out, you can still get condensation when outside temp. is cooler and/or humidity is higher. The colder you set the temperature control, the higher the likelyhood of condensation forming.

Try this. Set your temperature control to the hottest setting, flip the switch to defrost, you'll feel the A/C kick on.

BTW, this is not unique to MINI. Most cars, if not all, manufactured in the last 20 years do the same thing.
