Maybe Mini n00b

Well, I'm strongly considering trading my '06 GTI for a MCS. Been doing some research, my girlfriends sister has one and she's been a decent source of info as far as how her car has treated her goes.

I've always loved them, but have been driving VW's since i was 15. I still want a 65 or so as a project race car, but I think for daily driving I'm gonna switch it up for a change. I've been looking into some parets and such like 15% pulley, suspension and what not and have some questions.

How has your MCS responded to mods? Any life shortening things? My girls' sisters mini has only been in for an overheating problem, which I know another case of so I duno if this is a common thing on the S or what, and for a water leak. Any common issues I should know about?

Also, I noticed most spring kits only lower the car 1-1.2" ... is this normal? I'm used to the 1.5" for a DECENT drop, not even something agressive. I'm sure I'll have more questions, but I figure I need ot earn the right to ask more, and comntinue searching, some answers have already shown up doing that.

Thanks.

Rony,

Welcome to NAM.

I just deleted the second posting of this thread.

As far as suspension drop, yeah, 1-1.2 is normal drop in the MINI community for springs only. 1.5" would be considered to be a more agressive drop with springs on a MINI.

Part of the reason for that difference you're seeing between lowering a MK5 GTI and lowering a MINI, is that while VW of America raises the VW's coming to the U.S. by at least an inch over the Euro versions, MINIUSA gets basically the same ride height for the U.S. MINIs as the Euro spec MINIs. We don't see posts around here about getting the "euro spec" OEM springs (as is popular on the MK5 GTI for instance). So really where on a U.S. spec VW, you're first inch of lowering is getting back to "euro stock", on a MINI you're already lowering from the Euro ride height.

my car has its share of mods, i have cai, 15% pulley, 2% crank pulley, ECU, GRS intercooler, exhaust, and now a header... and the engine's been running all the same, no problems, only during severely hot days do the fan run on high....
