New Mini fan here

Hello everyone. I took a ride in a MCS couple days ago, and man was it cool. Now I want a MC or MCS as my first car. I got some questions, maybe some of you can help me out.

First, I was wondering, can factory options be retrofitted onto used cars, Specifically the packages such as Sport or Premium?

And is it hard to swap out an MC's 5 speed for the MCS 6-speed?

Hello and welcome!

Unfortunately most of the options are difficult and much more expensive to retrofit than they would have been during initial ordering. The good news is that the majority of cars had both the sport and premium packages... so therefore most used MINIs you find will have them

As to the trans... I guess it could be done... but at great expense. you have to pull the whole engine to change the trans I think... and then there will be electrical nightmares to come.

Also, try looking at a new MINI. it will cost a few $ more, but you'll get exactly what you want along with the rite of passage that is the waiting

I believe the sport and premium packages are installed at the factory but if you can find the parts somewhere, you probly could install yourself.

The parts for these cars I find are extremly expensive to replace or even change unless I guess you find used stuff.

I was looking at used Mini's but the cost difference from a 2-3 year old Mini was only $2,000 from a new one (extra $10 monthly payment or something like that). So we decided to get a brand new one.

Resale value is great but we'll see how well it holds up after the 2007's come out.

What a great title (IHuntDaleks)! I'm having flashbacks of staying up most of each Saturday night in college with friends and watching all the great British Sci Fi and comedies.

(Debating whether to get a KAR120C vanity plate just to see how many folks recognize it.)

Be seeing you!
