New cooper cr/w

HI, I am stilll in high school, and I have been saving for too long for a mini. I was always thinking of the cooper as second best(to the cooper s), but after lastnights test drive, there is no way that is possible, I love it, and It is in perfect condition. There is nothing wrong with it, and there is 55k miles. He is asking 14,500. My mom is going to the bank to see about a loan, and If nothing falls through, Ill keep you posted.

PS: It has ASC, is that DSC, just with a different name, or do I need some informing?

FlannelHippie

EDIT Took PICS

ASC is not the same as DSC.

ASC = All Season Traction Control
DSC = Dynamic Stability Control

Search around for details on the differences, I'm sure others have explained it already better than I can.

Congrats (hopefully) on the car. If it doesn't work out, just keep at it (saving and planning).

You're right. ASC is not available on the Cooper (according to the MINIUSA configurator). DSC is an option, perhaps that's just part of the confusion here... it has DSC, but not ASC.

And DSC includes ASC. It's an upgrade.

Great news! Glad to hear. Hope it all works out!

I'm in high school as well, and I'm just trying to spin it to my parents that it's a good car for a teenager (which I actually suppose it is: [relatively] cheap, small, safe)... Any problems convincing your parents to let you go for it?

yeah, raise a lot of money and buy one without your parents permission. But on a serious note, Ive had no problems, my dad likes the fact that I work for my money, and he will let me do what I want with it.

One more thing, my dad said as a condition for me buying the car was no modding. So Im at a loss, that was going to be fun, I mean Im aware theres not many mods for the cooper, and that they dont make you go much faster, but I just like to put new and better things in my car, I mean its really fun to see what you can improve next. But Im sure if its MINI manufactured and I had the nice people at Ralph Schomp MINI in Denver give me a JCW sound kit. And some Driving lights. But what other mods do MINI or JCW make specifically for the Cooper?

Ive had my Cooper all weekend and love it. My friends were all at wakeboarding camp for the weekend, and they saw it for the first time tonight, and I was talking to one of my friends and he asked if it was brand new. I said it was an 02 and he didnt believe me, the turtle wax ice, in combination with an immaculate interior really makes it look brand new. I felt proud to own a NEW 02 Cooper.

Nice! Congrats on the new car, and of course on the color combo. To me, there's no car nicer-looking than a chili red and white Cooper.

So, as far as the no modding rule goes, what exactly would your family notice? Air intake-wise, for example, or swaybar-wise? You're out of warranty, so the dealer would hardly have occasion to point such things out, right?

Yes! Get an old rear sway from an S. I bet you could get one for free.

Flannelhippie, I'm so glad to see you've got yourself a MINI...and even better, one that won't bankrupt you! Seems as though you were the most "eager to own" person I've come across in this forum, it's terrific to know that you're finally behind the wheel. The car looks great BTW. Enjoy!
