No, NO, NO. You can be put on a waiting list. This waiting list lasts 6-8 months, once you the wait 6-8 mo. on the list you are allowed to order your mini, which arrives in 6-8 estimated weeks as you stated above.
Thats in denver, the only mini dealer for a long way. Lots of other places dont take so long.
It's pretty simple...
Get a map of Mini dealers. Go in an ever increasing radius until you find the combination of items (wait list time, mark up or down etc) until you are happy. If you local dealer has a long wait, there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to put up with it!

Take a road trip to Kansas City with 54 in stock.... I just purchased my Mini S two week ago from them.. No discounts but no dealer added markups either.
