still having MPG problems

Hey Cousins,

I am still having MPG problems and it looks like I have 19 to 20 on a good day, I waited until my break in period but it looks like I still have the same issue. Oh yeah, I am used to driving manuals so I pretty much know how to step on the pedal.

equals call the dealer. With a cooper, you should be getting much, much better. Have them start digging!

The OBC on MIB says an average of 29mpg. I am considering resetting the computer as MIB is well past break in (3700+ miles). We do have winter formula gasoline here in Indianapolis so that may be a bit of the equation.

Another thing to cosider is that the 02-03 cars have a different final drive than that of the 04-06 cars. That in mind I don't think that mileage would drop 4-6 mpg.

On the drive home last night (nearly 400 miles) I got in the high 20's, and that's cruising in 4th and 5th as well as 6th.

Get thee to a dealer!

My second tank of gas in my new MINI I got 36-37 mpg (calculated), and I've never gotten less than 30 mpg with the car, even with two autocrosses on a tank of gas. The average for 8000+ miles is 32-34 mpg.

I have a MCSa with 1300 miles on it since I picked up the car 3 weeks ago today. Driving 70-80 on the interstate, I am getting 33.6 and I get 27 in a mix of city/highway and 22.8 with strictly city driving.

I do "show off" more that a bit for friends...showing the car's accelleration and power. Over all I'm extremely pleased with the mileage for an automatic tranny...I expected a good bit less.

Sounds like a trip to the dealer is in order for you. Good luck!

Make sure that you reset the OBC at each fill up! I had the same problem at first! :-o

You can't count on the OBC to be really accurate for calculating mpg. It will probably be within 2-3 mpg or so of the actual fuel consumption, but the only accurate way to get your mpg is to divide the miles driven by gallons used when you fill up.

I re-set the OBC while on the Riverboat run. On the way home I noticed a bit of improvement despite running on some hilly and twisties in southern Indiana. It read 35.8 MPG. Lets see what happens at the end of the week.

I've been keeping track of my milage the old fashioned way, and the highest I've gotten with my MCS is 25 mpg. My average is 20 mpg.

My driving is mostly a 5 mile commute (one way) during which I tend to hit the gas a little too hard.
