Hi everyone! Just ordered a MINI

Now that my account has been validated, I want to say hi to everyone. I've been "lurking" here for the past few weeks, learning as much as I can about the MINI ever since one of my coworkers let me drive his MCS. Well, I visited Classic MINI a couple days ago and decided to order my Cooper S yesterday. Delivery is estimated to be about the second week of May, and I'm sure that this is going to be a tough wait. I guess the good part of that is that I should be getting my MINI right around my birthday, plus I have a little while to second-guess the options that I picked. Here's what I got:
  • MCS in BRG, white roof & bonnet stripes, chrome line exterior
  • Sport Pkg (S-lites w/ performance tires)
  • Cold Weather Pkg
  • Convenience Pkg
  • Rear fog lamp
  • Black leatherette, anthracite dash & headliner, chrome line interior
  • on-board computer, multi-function steering wheel
I've been going back and forth on the automatic climate control and the H/K sound system. I'll probably go listen to both stereos this weekend and try to make up my mind for sure.

I'm sure that I'll be hanging around here, asking a bunch of questions both before and after I get my MINI. Actually, I'll ask one now: What are the "must-have" accessories? I'm planning to get the parcel shelf that goes under the steering wheel, but what other cool things should I get?

You won't regret the HK upgrade. Just make sure it is adjusted properly or you won't be impressed at all. The instructions that come with the system are extremely vague. I had to find out how to tweak the unit in this forum. I can't remember where I found it, or I would give you the link.

Also....I would seriously consider the premium package if you can afford it. This will add some real nice gadgets.

For me, the best extras I bought were the invisishield and the center armrest (new and improved version)

And don't forget to ask the dealer to throw in the rubber (not carpet) floormats with the deal.

Hope that helps.

sound advice

I agree the hk is better than stock,we have 2 minis 1 without and 1 with hk.As far as climate control in the summer set temp and forget it is better than manual. In winter its more complicated than manual because defrost requires overiding the auto feature when needed.Again we have both so I think we are objective on this.

I thought about the premium package, but I don't want the sunroof. I added the onboard computer and the multi-function steering wheel separately, though. The one I test-drove had the center armrest, and I really thought it was in the way. If I were getting the automatic, I'd probably get it, but not with the stick. Oh, and they did already tell me that they're going to throw in the floormats.

One more for the H/K - you won't be disappointed! I'm impressed with it everyday.

Well, it seems that the majority is in favor of the H/K system, and I'm inclined to agree. I took a few CDs with me, and sat and listened to both systems for a couple of hours yesterday. I definitely perfered the sound of the
H/K, and also liked all of the extra adjustments that it provides. I especially liked the "driver" mode.

So, I changed my order to add the H/K system. Now I just need to wait.....

Well, I got my production number about a week ago, and have been compulsively checking my MINI's status at the Owners' Lounge. It still says that it's "on order" and the order detail is blank. What's the average amount of time it takes for the order details to show up, and to get a production date? I've also called 866-ASK-MINI, and its automated message also says that there's no confirmed production date.
