Service engine soon light

hello miniacs. my service engine soon light came on the other day so i took it to autozone for the free OBD reading. It gave me the code 02506 (or something like that) - "emissions control or minor leak." I'm not sure whether i should replace the O2 sensor. it also has not been idoling very well lately, it actually stalled out on me the other day when i slowed down. anyone have any suggestions?

You have TWO O2 sensors one before the CAT and, one after.

I really think that the sensors are working fine ... they have detected the leak.

Sounds more like a gasket or vac hose.

Emissions are covered wnder warantee longer than the regular warantee.

What year / how many moles ?

Okay, I remember a problem like this that I read about on another thread....try this first before you put all your hard earned money into it: I can't find the thread but it was someone who did not tighten down their gas cap after they filled up...the sensor registered a problem. Their mechanic told them to go put more gas into their vehicle and make sure the cap is properly tightened. Once they did that, the light went off, it was a "false alarm." Hope this solves the problem.... Mick

my warranty is up, 60K miles on an '02 cooper...I already tried the gas cap thing. "sounds more like a gasket or vac hose" Sounds like a good thought, would that require me to check out every vac hose under the hood?

An easy check for vac leak be it a gasket or hose is the O'L CARB CLEANER TRICK.
Put on one of those small hoses onto a can of carb cleaner (so that you can direct the spray)
With the engine running ... Spray short little bursts at the hose / area that you want to check.
If there is a leak the engine will rev up.
You can test its effictivness by doing a "test subject", take off a known vac hose and spray. The engine WILL rev higher.
... GOOD LUCK

My SES light just came on again... I had it reset about 2 months ago. I have not filled up in like a week so it's not the gas cap. The last time I had it reset, the dealer said it was a software glitch that caused it to go off. I will post my results as I have an appt to bring in my MINI tomorrow for service and check it out. Any ideas?
