UK Member with Number 1 John Cooper Works Mini

Hi everyone

I'm from the UK and I have joined your group for a bit of help (and of course to chat with other Mini owners). I own the first John Cooper Works New Mini ever built and unfortunately I have to sell it. Now, I'm not sure if it should stay in the UK as you guys in the US seem much more active about the New Minis and I want to make sure it goes to someone who will love it as much as I do. So I wanted your advice as to where would be a good place to advertise it in the US and if it is the sort of thing that would be appreciated there.

It is a very, very special car and has been featured on the TV and in many magazines here in the UK and in the rest of the world too. It even has it's own website at http://web.mac.com/joconnelly/iWeb/Mini/

I would really appreciate some friendly feedback.

Nice website! I use iLife for the Mac too!

What a special MINI! Too bad you have to let it go! What are you asking for it?

Thanks, it will be nice to keep the website as a reminder of the car.

I was intending to put it up for auction, but I would set the starting price at around $30k. I think as the first Classic Cooper is now worth over $70.5k this would be a fair price and likely to increase over the years.

I think you're dreaming if you think it's worth what you state. Good luck if you are selling, wish you the best.

I am not so sure. Timing and position is everything and if you can get a little press and have a top auto auction house - or better yet one like Sothebys - agree to handle it, you may do very well.

Somewhere on this site was a story of the James Bond Aston Martin DB-5 being sold recently for many millions. Visiting the site of that auctioneer, you notice many more cars with lesser histories doing quite well at auction.

MINI fever is advancing rapidly in the US - and this is the perfect time to take advantage of it. All you need to do is connect with someone with adequate resources, MINI enthusiasm, and a desire to own a piece of history. Not that tall an order I would think.

I happen to be an appraiser - but don't deal with cars unfortunately...

Bill

Cool! If I had plenty of money for more cars and toys I'd like to have it. I'm not sure the picture of it getting airborn on the front magazine cover will help it sell though...

ALL the mags and the TV shows have shots of the car airborn - it is part of it's provanance. Not to worry though, the car had special suspension to deal with it and I am happy for it to have any inspection and can incude a professional report if someone wishes.
