I got a VIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Started production yesterday (7/6 @ 5:08 AM). Didn't find out the timezone

The automated robot guy says that it is scheduled to be finished by 7/15 - I hope it doesn't take that long! It is:

HB/B
Premium
Chrono Pack
DSC (for resale value)
Anthracite int (not headliner)
FORGOT: Armrest

: )

Make sure you watch that VIN number. Mine changed after a week. The second one was the actual VIN on my car when delivered.

Uh, oh. Darn. As far as it not matching, do you remember when or why it changed? ie, status of production change, or other key event?

Congrats, ururk! Nice specs, too! It won't be long, now! The date of completion is always given as the Friday of the week it's built. Now the REAL insanity begins: the WAIT!

Thanks! I tried to keep the specs moderate - cost low - but ended up adding DSC and an armrest last minute!

But you say the date of completion is the week it is built - do you mean "finished" or "production started"?

Anyone else memorized their VIN, or am I just a giant nerd?

That was thanks to the Wallenius site -- had to enter the VIN for tracking across the ocean... about 25 times a day...

It changed when they actually started production so yours is probably real. My VIN came a couple of days before and then changed. Congrats on the start of production. I waited a month before that, but after the start, it went pretty fast.

I thought it was requirement that you know your VIN to own a MINI!
My insurance agent, banker, and even my MA all laughed when I could tell them my VIN from memory.

All of you are making me feel HORRIBLE. I just copy and paste... I *almost* remember my production number, the VIN will take a bit of time. I know the first half already, though.

But, I think it will come in handy. Somehow.

Awww, no worries, ururk, it'll stick with you eventually -- just takes a couple weeks -- especially once it gets on the boat -- do they still have the ocean weather site that shows the boats in the ocean? Now that was pretty cool...

Aaaahhh!!! I googled my own question....

Ooooooo...you got the date AND time!!! Very good! MINI should send out little b&w MINI sonograms...you know, all scratchy looking...where you can barely make out your MINI and the factory robots. I know that sounds weird but MINI owners would love that with an imprint of the time and date. Okay, I would!! Hey...they've done weirder stuff, right!!!

Aw, sweetie! The only important numbers of the VIN are the last seven...memorize those!

Ha! VIN from memory! YEP. At first I memorized the production number (one glance did it for me). As soon as they issued the VIN, the PN went outta the head and the VIN was in! lol

Now I have two VIN's! The website updated finally, and it lists a "lower" number than what ASK MINI said. Interesting. I hope this means it will be built sooner! (delusions, delusions)

SRTech - did you get the VIN from the website, or from ASK MINI? Either way it doesn't matter, but I would like to be sure so as to track it to the USA. I'm trying both #'s in the WWW site daily (uhh, hourly ) to see when it shows up.

I got mine from the site. The second number was slightly higher (+48) than the first, but it didn't seem to affect the start of production date.

I'm being told the number on the website is correct! Either I was terribly confused when I wrote the number down, or the website is being updated faster that it has been.

The website was just a day behind askmini when mine was being built.

How are you all getting all this extra information?? All my Owners Lounge says is "Scheduled For Production" and it has a VIN number. It has been that way since July 4th weekend. Seems a little strange to me when everyone else is talking about production dates and all that. Where else should I be looking for this type of information? I am hoping that i get my car sooner and with the information I have, it seems like I will, but then I read threads liek this and make me thing that I am way behind others... :(

Call:

1-866-ASK-MINI

and follow the prompts. The "Vehicle Production Status" menu item is an automated robot voice. He'll give you some information, but nothing too detailed. Talk to a customer relations person, give them your production number, and see what information they have for you!
