angelfanz,
Aloha and welcome to NAM.
Your mpg will vary with how you drive and how much urban driving you might be doing.

Keep off the brakes, be gentle on the throttle, drive the posted speed limit, use the cruise control, don't idle for too long, inflate your tires to the recommended pressures, and don't overload your MINI with alot of people or stuff and you'll likely reach your 28 to 30+ mpg.

Over time after breakin your MINI will likely get better mpg.

Within the first month of ownership I got about 33 mpg with my MCS.
Since then it's been pretty tough to do the good things I listed above so I've been getting more like 27 mpg if I behave well. The car is simply too fun to drive so driving like a grandma isn't the most gratifying mode of travel.

I've got the Cabrio 5 speed. I've just put in the second tank of gas and reset the computer. My first tank went 400 miles and the computer showed 30.7 MPG, which is much higher than I expected. In reading I see that over time the car will *break-in* and start getting better mileage. If I can get 30 out of tank 1, I think I'll be a happy-camper in a few months...

I too have an 05 MCSa and am getting about the same mileage as you.

As mentioned. It's probably due to driving habits and the break-in. It's too much fun to worry about a few mpg....put the top down and ENJOY!!!

I have the hard top MCSa and get about 30 MPG on the highway and about 17 or 18 in urban stop and go.

The problem is not putting the top down although that will decrease your milage its the foot that is the problem Have fun. Put your credit card in the gas pump and forget about it

Those ratings are also estimates under ideal driving conditions, although I have no idea what ideal driving conditions are...

Your mileage will vary greatly compared to what's on the sticker...
