New to the Family - MCS

Greetings from Massachusetts. Purchased a MCS this past week as my 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT died a sad death. Clutch failed, not wanting to put any more money into the car, I went to the mini dealers. Being a tall person, both cars are ideal because of the ample leg room. As my car was dead, no waiting around for a custom ordered MCS, I had to chose from what was on the lot. Ended up with an '05 MCS in Pepper white, black top, Winter and Premium packages. Also includes the rain sensing wipers which I have yet to see work.

Put down money on Mon and was off and motoring starting Wed night. I have only driven it 2 days, but was fun and enjoyablel. I do wish the sales guy has given me directions for the break in period, but he did not. I have not run the engine very hard yet anyway, but I have used the cruise, but will stop for a while.

It does seem odd that the first oil change is at 10k, I guess they are not worried about the fine shavings and flakes created during the break in period.

Anyway, Hi.

Ryan

Sad to hear about the Fiero. That was the year that they finally got it correct!

Glad to hear that you are happy with your MCS! You can get a .pdf version of the owners manual on line at motoring file (do a search for motoring file her on NAM and then do a search for owners manual on motoroing file)

Congrats on the MINI and welcome to NAM.

A lot of people do an oil change before going to the dealer for their "first" oil change.

Can I assume then that oil filters are readily available for purchase at places like Autozone or Napa? I always change my own oil up until now. I've never had a service agreement or warrenty to worry about. Would like to keep all of that happy for a while.

Thank you,

Ryan

There are no aftermarket oil filters for the MINI, nor have I seen air filters. Seems that BMW has locked up the market for these items. It seems logical that there arent any aftermarket as BMW wants us only let them service our cars thus they have a supply of certified used cars when we trade up. Another reason why BMW and MINI have far less depreciation than other lesser brands!
