Mini Newbie

Son had his heart set on a mini cooper and we purchased a 2008 Mini Cooper S with 71K on it. It is in good condition with it's small issues that a car this old will have. Took it in for an Oil change at my local shop and the tech showed us a hole in the flywheel housing. Looks smooth on the inside like it is part of the casting. Not sure if I am missing a plug here or if it is supposed to be open like this. Any help would be appreciated. I look forward to using you guys as a huge source of information as my son and I work on this "never ending" project together.

Sight hole? Do I need a plug?

Welcome to the world on Mini!

That hole is pretty normal. You'll typically see a "weep" hole at the base of the bellhousing on most manual transmission vehicles. In the event of a seal failure, it let's whatever fluid might collect there to drip out.
