New member, new owner, of an "old" mini (2005)
Hi, my name is Xander and I own a mini.... (now that that's out of the way..)
Long story but I bought a Mini last week that I have known for all of it's life and the 2 previous owners. The first owners were some colleagues of mine, the wife drove the car for about a dozen years, with regular service to it. Then it went to her daughter and acquired some bumps and bruises, and needs some TLC. Then the vehicle was purchased by another colleague that used it for a project for his son's trade school (college level) Mechanic training. Once he was "done" with it (added a clutch and several other maintenance items along with hacking off the exhaust and welding a cherry bomb muffler under the car) it kinda fell onto my radar.
I love the exhaust hack, makes me feel like the car is alive again, and really is fun to drive.... however, the door handle doesn't work on the inside, the AC doesn't work, the ABS light and the TMPS lights are on (probably the wheel speed sensor?) the Lower control arms need to be done, the head of the spindle pinch bolt is broken off, then thing leaks coolant and oil (I think it's the oil filter housing gasket), and the door speakers don't work. That's just the short list of things to fix, but I'm working on it.
So far I replaced the front door speakers, replaced the bowden cable, and started working on the LCA bushings (and some coilovers for fun)
I've got a few other cars, but I still felt like I needed to "save" this mini. I hope I enjoy the adventure, because so far I enjoy driving this car as much as my other cars.
X....
