My first fix is the remote key, I only have 1 master key. Put in a new battery, but can't seem to activate it with the process in the 2003 manual, or using the 'Unlock + 3x Lock' button press methods.
Any thoughts? I'll start searching for a solution. But, if anyone knows a good way to test the circuit board, I'm all ears and have a DVOM. I'm guessing the transponder is good, because I can use the key mechanically, and the car will start & drive.
To program the key on that car you need the barcode that came with the key and then someone with the MINI software to program the code into the body module. No other way to do it.
Thanks everyone! Having a great weekend so far... just programmed the one remote key I got with the car to work! I used the K-line from Cable-Shack, instructions from Indi, and nudge from tigagreen. It was a bit frustrating, but it's my fault for not reading the instructions first. My son enjoyed learning more tech, and we contributed much to the pizza fund! The oil light at idle issue appears to be fixed, I'll do the write-up on it now that I'm confident in the solution.
