Noob - Potential Mini R53 owner!

I'm about to take over a relative's R53 Cooper S, it's one owner, 70k miles, 6 speed!, no options (barely), just straight up Cooper S with a stick!

I don't know much about these cars, but want to know from you pros any watchouts maintenance wise (clutch was just replaced), and basic mods I should be getting for power and suspension etc.

I'm looking to do OEM plus type mods, tasteful, not major stuff, just enough.

Also, anyone know in the Los Angeles area which car shops specialize in Mini modding?

Thanks everyone, hope to be an official owner soon and share stories!

Welcome to NAM.

If the car is a 5 speed it is not an S. The S, R53, has the scoop in the hood, is supercharged and a 6 speed. What many call the "Justa, R50, has no scoop, no supercharger and a 5 speed.

my mistake, it's a 6 speed!

what I found interesting about this one, it's Cooper S '06 with the supercharger still in there + stick, which I realized is hard to find overall. My aunt is selling it to me for $3k all-in, so I was like, what a deal!

Hi and welcome to the NAM family.
You think it is basic, but if you use the last 7 digits from your vin and put them here:
http://bimmer.work/ It will tell you what your car actually came with and I think you will see it has quite a few options you may not know about!
Congrats on your new to you MCS!

Don't be greedy, show us some pics! LOL

Welcome, sounds like you're getting a good deal.

Obviously the best bang for the buck mods will be a pulley and sway bar as they alone will transform the car.
