My First Mini R55 (Some General Questions)

So I have recently become the proud owner of a 2009 Mini Cooper S Clubman... Everything with this car has been amazing so far. Just a few things that have stuck out in my mind about the vehicle and I hope that possibly you guys could give me some insight.

1. There is a noticeable "Blow Off" noise during high revs, Is this normal? I did some snooping around the engine bay and didn't notice any aftermarket blowoff valves and to my knowledge most stock turbos use diverter valves.

2. Is the road noise typical of this vehicle. While I'm zipping around with my music on blast, its not that big of a deal. But when I am trying to make a phone call via the bluetooth radio, people have a hard time hearing me on the other end. if its normal, I know my first investment is going to be in some better sound proofing.

3. How important is it to use "Mini Branded synthetic motor oil" Are there better synthetics out there? Only reason I ask is because I do majority of routine maintenance myself.

These are all probably silly questions but I hope you guys can give me some insight. Other than that, this car has been awesome!! I look forward to many a good year with it!! Cheers!!

It's likely the BOV. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...lve-sound.html

Does your Clubman have runflats? Even if you don't, harder tires designed to last longer are typically noisier, and tread patterns make a difference.

MINI publishes their own requirements for motor oil:

Meets ACEA A3/B4, API SL
BMW Longlife-01
For Gasoline / Diesel engines without DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter)

However, we feel as long as you stay with any name brand full synthetic motor oil that meets or exceeds the MINI spec and at the correct weight, you should be fine.
Most of our customers like to change their oil between 5k city miles or 10k freeway miles, I recommend 5k miles. I personally used Mobile1 5W-30.

Hope that helps! Be sure to check out our Clubman special section on our website!

Drive hard. Drive Safe. Keep Grinning.
