New to Forum, question on Incorrect Ambient Temp Reading

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this mini forum, plenty of great knowledge in here. Always a big fan of mini and I currently own a 2015 Cooper S Hatchback (2-door, manual).

I'm hoping that all your expertise can enlighten this problem for me, as the local Mini garage seems could not solve the problem immediately (had to go back twice, and they're located 90mi away from where a live, closest mini). About 3 months ago my car got into a slow-speed head-on collision with a pay-load equipment who drove on the wrong side of the lane.

The car is now (almost fully) repaired, except one thing: incorrect ambient temperature reading (it keeps reading at 22-23C while the actual outside temp is 15C).

I took to Mini dealership for diagnose and repair. They stated that they "checked all lines and connections, and everything works fine. They found that the sensor was defective, replaced with a new one, test drove the vehicle and found no problem (so they say). Defective outside temp sensor connected battery charger, interrogated fault memory & found no related faults". However, when I picked up the car it still reads 22-23C (15C was the actual based on iPhone weather app).

Can you advise what seems to be the problem?

If I understand you correctly, the new OEM Ambient temp sensor which was last installed worked ok for them, but now is back to reading incorrectly as before ?

Yea, that's what I think they are saying? Maybe a fault in the wire itself.

Being as the car was in a collision I would venture to say you've got a short somewhere in the temp sensor wiring. I've fixed quite a few cars with frayed/broken wires pertaining to faulty temp sensor readings.

If the wiring checks out, the sensor may have been improperly placed and you are now reading hotter temps due to being closer to the radiator.
