My first car! A 2013 Bayswater MCS with 60k miles.
The previous owner put on red mirrors, spoiler, gas trim ring, etc. I would consider changing it from red (I have the original mirrors and bumper triangle things), but I don't think it would be easy considering the spoiler and gas trim ring won't be easy to change.
If I were to keep the red, which is likely, what do you guys think about de-chroming? What parts should I change to black, and what to red?
The only damage on the car is a small dent on passenger side (that I'll be getting fixed) and part of the bonnet stripe is worn. Where can I get new stripes?
That's a helluva first car. Welcome to MINI. Where are you in PA? Those red parts are possibly off a GP2 car which gives the parts some value. They could also just be reproductions. All those red parts pop off pretty easily if you want to swap them out. Get the stripes from the dealership.
Nice Bayswater Mini... red bits make it distinctive for sure. There's more than one way to de-chrome, not just black tape anymore. Some interesting dark carbon fiber look tape has been used by NAM members for this purpose and also looks good.
As Gitmoe said, it shouldn't be too hard to switch any of that red trim back to black if you wanted to do it. Make it your own any way you want. Welcome to NAM!
Congratulations! Check out www.mightystripes.com for new stripes. They're very cost efficient and great quality. We used them for our R53 stripes. If you want, we have the JCW upper black grille portion HERE and the lower portion HERE. The lower portion will take some slight modifications to fit. Driver side headlight trim ring in black HERE and passenger side HERE.
Philly MINI is a huge group, great club. Much bigger then my Pittstop MINI club. With the MINI clubs , most have track days, large meets and you can meet many other owners and what they are doing to there own MINIs. Lots of fun. Think the WNY MINI club is up there near also.
