I picked up my 2004 Mini Cooper S on Saturday. It has 104K on the odo and the usual Mini leaks. Overall, it is in very good cosmetic condition.
Mechanically, it's probably average for an 11 year old R53. It appears to have been wrenched on by a lazy mechanic at some point; perhaps at the to-remain-unnamed (non-Mini) dealership I purchased it from. I have found various loose or missing fasteners and a missing hose clamp on the airbox. I wouldn't say I'm exactly OCD, but those things make me go
Today I placed an order with ECS Tuning for $80 worth of gaskets and a PCV valve, which will all be installed by yours truly next weekend. I went to every well-known Mini/BMW shop in Northern VA and decided that while the guys in the shops I visited seemed super nice, I would rather pay $80 and roll up my sleeves than pay $1,000 and grab my ankles, so to speak
