Also new to Mini

Hi, all. So I've always wanted a Mini. I finally found one at a price I could afford last June. Now I find it needs some work. What was particularly scary was my mechanic calling out the transmission. Now, I went back to the used dealer where I bought it. He told me it probably just needed a reflash. Now, I'm a girl. I'll admit that I'm a quick learner, but I know very little about cars, and considering I just joined a very go get em club, I'm not nearly brave enough to attempt any work myself. This is probably the totally wrong place to have posted this but I wasn't sure where to start. In the mechanics defense he said not only do they not do transmissions, but they also don't see many Minis. I'm not sure if this reflash is truly necessary or if the dealer is giving me a line. Help? Pretty pretty please.

Still working on a name...

Need more info, what exactly is the problem? The dealer who sold you the car probably just wants you to take a hike and not cast your shadow on his door.

Well. The mechanic took it for a spin and said that the rpm's were way too high, but he couldn't pinpoint the exact issue, just that there was something up with the transmission. The car also seems to be sticking between reverse and drive and shifting pretty hard. But it's all very intermittent. Very confused

Welcome to NAM! You could try going back to the dealer and complaining about them selling a car with a bad transmission, but not sure how far that'll get you. Another option is to seek out a MINI indy shop, which specializes in MINI's. That way they know exactly what to look for and what really is the issue. I'd do a Google search for "MINI Cooper repair West Allis, WI" and see what you find. Maybe someone else can give you a good recommendation for a shop in your area. I hope you get this all figured out and resolved quickly so you can enjoy your MINI once again. If you have any questions or need any help, please don't hesitate to ask! We are all here to help you out. And for any future issues you may encounter, try posting in this section of the forum here instead for a better response.

If it's an Automatic this is really bad as they all fail hense the lawsuits around the CVT trans. So if that is it I'd see what your warranty is on the car as that can easily be over $7000 to fix.
If it's a manual they also fail but about half the price to fix, but reving like you say would normally be a slipping clutch on a manual.
