Hey All,
Recently picked up a 2006 Cooper S (w/ 120K miles.) It's my first Mini (in addition to being my first manual car.) I have already started some simple mods (DDM intake and JCW strut bar) with more to come. The community seems pretty welcoming.
Congrats and welcome! If you want to meet some like-minded MINI owners, take a road trip up to Philly and stop by Helix. We do periodic weekend events which usually end up with a BBQ and BS session. Next scheduled one will be the RMW dyno tuning event on October 22-24.
Are you going to put any Maryland swag on your MINI?
I will be doing Maryland flags on my side mirrors and I'm debating if I should do a roof flag. Even though I don't get my MINI until early next week, I've already ordered and received custom license plate frames; the front has the top half of the Maryland flag on the top section and the bottom half of the flag on the bottom. The back has the zoomed-in Testudo logo on the top and "MARYLAND" in Terrafont on the bottom. I also have various stuff for inside, like a Testudo pillow for the back seat and little touches like red USB chargers to match the red trim line.
My car has a little over 120K miles, so I've been working to get some basic maintenance items done. Outside of your standard oil and fluid changes, the following big maintenance items have been replaced in the last 10-20K miles: entire power steering system, rack and pinion system, belt tensioner and idler arm, coolant reservoir, all struts, all rotors, and clutch.
I've gone ahead and replaced the intake with a DDM cold air, and replaced the cabin air filter. Some of the terminals on the coil are corroded, so I'm going to replace the coil pack (with OEM) and the wires.
I've ordered a ATI crank pulley and a 15% SC pulley. I imagine my crank pulley may be living on borrowed time, and the pulley seems to be recommended by everyone. I'd like to also pick up a rear sway bar eventually. This car will mostly be a weekend vehicle.
In terms of customization, I would like to eventually get the vehicle wrapped. The clear coat on the tail is peeling, and the paint on the roof and hood is starting to oxidize. I need to get it re-tinted and possibly pick up an auto dimming mirror.
Welcome to NAM! Looks like a lot of work has been done on the vehicle before you purchased it. That's great news! You've done your research it seems. You'll love the pulley and the rear sway bar compliments well. If you need coil packs we have some here and have a 10% off coupon going on for lots of OE brands right now, like Beru! Wires here too. Promo code is COOPER if you're interested. Otherwise, looks like you'll be enjoying the MINI a lot and have some great plans for it thus far! If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to ask! Cheers.
