My Many Mini Adventures
My Many Mini Adventures
Hi All!
Enjoy!
In August 2014 I became the proud owner of my 2008 Mini Cooper S JCW which has 93,000 miles on it currently. Little did I know what I was getting myself into.
I didn't discover until recently that the little car, now named Spaz (for reasons you will soon see) had three previous owners, one of whom had gotten into a fender bender.
Within one month of owning my mini, the clutch went out, costing a pretty penny to repair at my local BMW/Mini shop. About four months after that I began having misfires in two cyclinders, resulting in four new spark plugs, and two new coils, also courtesy of the same shop. Between these two repairs, I had the shop replace the serpentine belt. A few months went buy with no problems...then the engine malfunction light...
Please not, this is the engine MALFUNCTION light, not the check engine light. My car went into limp mode, and the turbo turned off. I first attempted to diagnose my car myself, finding a massive crack in the turbo inlet tube. I replaced that thinking that would solve the problem. This didn't make an impact.
I then took it into a tuning shop 45 minutes from where I live, because the local place I usually took it to had no clue what was wrong with it. After an expensive diagnosis, they informed my I needed a new diverter valve.
I order the part from pelican parts, and, after prompt shipping, received it and fitted it to Spaz...no change. Basically I paid lots of money for the wrong diagnosis. I even took it into the shop to have them "reset the adaptations". No luck.
Current day, still the same. I am receiving a new TMAP sensor tomorrow and we will see if that fixes the problem of no boost. As you have probably guessed by now, my mini's name is Spaz because it is always spazzing out on me. Some things I understand were usual repairs, such as the plugs, however.
TL;DR: My car is awesome but needs a lot of work
Thanks Guys!
Enjoy!
