We own two great Minis -- a 2010 Mayfair S Hardtop and a 2013 Countryman S AWD. I was a teacher who worked summers as a VW-Porsche-Audi mechanic, which led to a job as a factory tech instructor and a nat'l tech specialist.

I admit I've joined N.A. Motoring, in part to get help with an annoying CEL problem on my Hardtop, P2418 (evap system, open circuit), to be exact. I bought an OBD2 USB plug for $13 and downloaded free laptop software -- works great.

I used to preach to students about the need get to the bottom of each problem before replacing parts, but I replaced the evap leak detection pump simply because of all the internet chatter. Of course, the CEL came back, and I realized it's an electrical problem, probably the purge valve. I have good wiring diagrams showing a fuel tank vent valve, but no purge valve. Stay tuned.
