Wife talked me into getting us a MINI!
Hello all! My wife and I decided we needed to get a "beater car" because I'd recently purchased a 2008 Chevrolet Corvette. Even though my wife already drives the family hauler we needed something that would seat our two young children in a pinch. Secretly, I also wanted a daily driver that would still allow driving the Corvette to feel like a novelty, not to mention keeping it clean easier.
My wife had previously owned a 2003(ish?) MINI Cooper S and loved it. To be honest I wasn't too sold on it: it was an auto and the ride was a bit harsh for my tastes. My preference was to look at other options like the VW Golf R/GTI, Ford Focus ST, etc.
Of course, because my wife had let me realize my dream of owning a Corvette, I didn't have much room to argue. Reluctantly, I shopped for a MINI but we compromised that it had to have a MANUAL transmission.
We looked at the MINI hardtop JCW, Countryman, and Clubman S. My wife really didn't care which MINI we got, so after driving all of these I decided on a no-frills 2011 Horizon Blue Metallic Clubman S with under 40K miles for $17,599.
Let me tell you, this car has been a REVELATION to me! I absolutely LOVE driving this car and in many ways it's more fun around town and in traffic than my Corvette. It's zippy, easily accessible for kids and cargo, and I love the styling. In an age of over-engineered and computerized cars, our MINI has been a refreshing, back-to-basics driver's car and I couldn't be happier. Oh yeah... and my wife's ecstatic... not just about the car of course, but that she was RIGHT!
Whew! Long story. But thanks for reading! I look forward to meeting and learning lots of stuff from all of you.
