Hello

Hi guys\girls

I will soon be the owner of a 2011 Mini Cooper S Hardtop 6MT in British Racing Green w/ bonnet stripes.

Since I live in Long Island (NY) my first purchase will be winter tires.
I am currently looking on the web and this forum to see what others are doing or have done regarding Brand and Size. Any suggestions are welcome

My next step would be to do suspension mods to the car and power mods after that. The car is for my wife and I will drive it on the weekends.

Looking forward to meeting new friends and reading up on this site.

Hello and welcome.

Getting a good set of steelies ( steel wheels ) and some snow tires are a good start if you are going to be driving the MINI in the winter then you can just swap your summer tires / wheels when the weather breaks. And save your wheels.

MINI has some factory steel wheels that will fit the Cooper and Cooper S on Gen 2 R56+, which is your model. 16" silver face and matching center cap.

MINI OEM part number :36116768504 Center Cap With MINI Logo In Wider Silver
This is great for the 4x100 silver face wheel to match, I am running the same set up on the factory 16". R56 MCS.

Made for these: 16 x 5.5" steelies OEM part number: 36116764346 - Priced Each
( In 16" they come in silver , hence the silver match center cap ) These are good for Gen 1 With JCW brakes. Also Fits the Cooper & Cooper S Gen 2, but not the Brembo ( 4 pistion ) and GP2.

For the Gen 2 JCW Brembo brakes there are the Alloy skinny wheels . No 17" steelies at this time. Thats the only factory option.

R114 JCW LM Rad Cross Spoke Wheel 17" (4x100) 17 x 5.5 ET:42 Part# 36116786220

Thanks and I hope that helps, good luck with the tire search.

For suspension, are you looking for coilovers, just springs (lower), or cup kits ?

Thx ECS

I am not a fan of Steelies. I would rather buy a good used stock or aftermarket wheel at low cost.

Suspension: i had coil over suspension on a car before so I know a little bit about coils. I am not sure yet on what suspension mods I will be doing but it will be more along the lines of stiffening up the car a tad bit to eliminate body roll. Springs could be an option once i settle on a nice aftermarket wheel and tire combo for the spring\summer.

Welcome to the NAMily 11MCS and congrats on the soon to arrive BRG MCS!

We'd all love to see your new MINI, so how about sharing with your new brothers and sisters here on NAM by posting some pics of it, cause we love pics... yes we do!

Let me see now, you need some advice on tires and rims eh... well I will throw my .02 in the pot for what its worth. My suggestion for tires would be the Bridgestone Blizzak tire. Mind you this is a dedicated winter tire and perhaps maybe a good all season tire might suffice.

Further help on the subject of tires/rims can be found right here on NAM at:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/tires-wheels-and-brakes-36/

I'm sure that this subject has already been tackled in this forum and if not then fear not for help is on the way as I am sure one of us has the info you desire.

As for rims, well I find myself agreeing with you on getting that used set of stock rims as I think there would be sufficient numbers out there that could be had and they would certainly look better (IMO) than steel rims.

Well then that about covers things... Good luck and when out motoring don't forget to wave! Speaking of the Wave I invite you to join your fellow MINI/Mini enthusiasts by joining The League of Extraordinary MINIacs!

You can do this at:

On NAM at:

Or on Facebook at:

C'mon and take the oath... you know you want to!

In the meantime may you and your MINI share many miles and smiles on the road of Life!

Motor On!

Welcome

Watch the classified ads or your local Craigslist, you should be able to find a good used set of stock wheels for cheap. Then just put your winter tires on them. That will be the most cost effective way, and still look good with them on it.

As for mods just give us a call when your ready and we'll discuss options and put something together for your needs.

ECS, Sabre and WayMotorWorks......
Thank you very much for the warm welcome and info!!

I might just keep my stock wheels (on the car currently)and just add a nice set of Blizzaks like mentioned above. Then come spring buy a nice combo.

I should have pics up before Saturday.
