From an R53 to an R56!

Hiya,
I had a '04 DS/B MCS that I foolishly sold in '11... been kicking myself ever since and as of this last Friday, June 28, 2013, bit the bullet and bought a 2009 CR/B MCS.

A lot has changed since when I first fell in love with a MINI and I'm hoping I'll find kind folks to help clue me in on these boards. And I'm not-so-secretly relieved I still know how to drive a manual. Heh.

(Sorry for the horrible photo, it was a super quick snapshot as I was battling a 102ºF fever in 90ºF weather. )

Sorry to bump, but figured better to ask here than somewhere else...

Having been a part of various forums related to all sorts of topics, I've definitely noticed that each have their own set of "etiquette." My question to you all is, do folks here on NAM prefer members to start a brand new thread, or prefer members to piggyback onto potentially older/ less-relevant, but existing threads?

Sorry if I'm being overly cautious, I just don't want to step on anyone's toes! TIA!
