Clubman maiden voyage
Trip totals: 8 days, 2150.8 miles, 35.2 mpg, average speed 55.3 mph.
Interesting how the mpg varies under different conditions. Obviously the city driving (limited, but in London, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Ann Arbor) brought down the average. The mileage also seemed to be a bit worse on the return trip -- I wonder if wind was a factor. Faster speeds (above about 70 mph) seem to reduce the mileage. It also seems like the road surface has an effect. There was a stretch where I was averaging about 60 mph on a very smooth, recently surfaced road for about half an hour, and the instant mpg reading was consistently about 42-44. Also, the air conditioning was on almost the entire trip, for what it's worth. Edit to add: It was much more hot and humid on the return trip. It wouldn't surprise me if the extra load on the air conditioning resulted in a decrease of a few miles per gallon.
All in all, an excellent maiden voyage.
