Countryman and Zippy Wheelchair

Countryman is on order and I am beyond excited. And beyond obsessed. Pretty much beyond everything. Don't know how I'm going to hold on until early December, when it hopefully arrives.

My daughter has a Zippy wheelchair and we have an adapted van to transport her. However, I have been dreaming about zipping about the countryside with her sitting next to me...I think that she'll really love the experience, especially because it will have the sunroof.

However, I'm wondering if anyone has tried fitting a Zippy wheelchair in the boot (obviously, with the seats down). It's a child-sized one and doesn't collapse. I never got around to trying to fit it in at the dealer when we placed our order. If it's a no-go, then I will just have to continue to dream about driving together, but my vision will include the wheelchair parked on the pavement, awaiting our return. C'est la vie. Thanks for your help.

You could measure the wheel chair & then go to the dealership and see if those measurements would fit into a Countryman. I have a Clubman, and I've been able to fit a flat screen 39" TV in the back with just one seat down and my 7 year old son in his booster next to it. It's amazing what fits in a MINI.

I hope it works out b/c I know your daughter would have just as great a time as you would sharing the motoring experience.

I know in the UK, MINI has a service called Motability. http://www.mini.co.uk/model-range/motability/

It's a charity to help disabled and war veterans obtain new cars. One of the options on the page I linked to is "adaptations". They also show a Countryman on that page. I know you're not in the UK, but maybe someone at MINI USA could help you to see if something similar is offered in the US. Just a thought...I honestly don't know if they do.

Good luck & may you & your daughter have many, many, motoring memories.

Thank you InTheClub! That site does look promising! Chances are it's going to fit, otherwise the program wouldn't be too successful. The dealer is too far away for me to go back and check, and it's a done deal anyway. The wheelchair is an awkward shape, but can be adjusted a bit. I know it's rather a specialized question, and there's a good chance that not too many people have tried to do this, so I appreciate your response. I am wallowing in my obsession, and it is my current fixation.

I think she's going to love it. In the van, she's tucked in the middle row and she doesn't get a window. In the MINI, she'll be riding shotgun, with a window and a sunroof. Yowza! And we can hold hands! (It's an automatic .)
