Mod help for a 2011 non-s cooper

I have been a mini owner for a few years now. My parents owned an '06, which got me hooked on minis. We then traded in our jeep for a second mini (2009) and last year we traded those in and got 3 new 2011 minis (non-s coopers). Great Cars to say the least. I have been thinking about putting some mods on mine and have been thinking to start with intake or exhaust. I've been leaning more towards an intake kit first cause of price. Anyway I've encountered a problem with finding parts, as I live in NJ, that are CARB approved. I know I could just keep the stock parts and just switch them before inspection, but I don't want to do that. Anyway I did find one intake kit I liked (K&N 69 SERIES TYPHOON COLD AIR INTAKE SYSTEM), but I'm not sure its CARB approved. On K&N's website its not as well as a few others, but on some other sites its listed as being CARB approved. I also saw ddmworks intake kit, but can't find if its CARB approved. I was also wondering if an automatic tranmission makes any difference as far a mods (haven't done mods to cars before and was never quite sure about it). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yeah thanks, I realized after posting that I posted this in the wrong spot. I reposted it in another forum as well and got a pretty decent reply, though not exactly what I was looking for.
