Welcome aboard, and congrats on your choice of a fine MINI. R53s are just fantastic cars all around. I'd recommend checking out Way Motor Works for all types of after-market upgrades. I just got a cold air intake, reduced pulley (check out the WMW kit, it has all you need), rear sway bar from them.
You also might look at the first gen forum, do some browsing & searching, and I'm sure you'll find all you're looking for, and then some.
