Oil usage on new R56

Hello all,

I just wanted to share my oil usage with other new mini drivers to help reinforce the need to check it weekly.

I got my 2012 MCSa a little over a week and a half ago. First thing I did once I got it home was try my hand at checking the oil level. Turns out it was half a quart low...go figure.

I put roughly 600 miles on it in a 8 days and when I checked it again, it was down another half a quart.

Please, if you love you Mini, check the oil! I'm hoping the oil consumption will go down as it gets broken in...oil isn't cheap!

I had my 2012 MCSa for a month now with about 1500 KM.
I check the oil a few times now according to the method which was discuss in another thread. And my oil level is steady right in the middle between the Min and Max mark . Hasn't change at all.

Goliath79, that seems like a lot of loss for a new car. Have you looked for leaks? I'd be worried if I were you.
You're sure right about checking though. People should make a habit of it. If only we could tell EVERYONE who drives a MINI off of the lot.

Make sure you follow the correct oil check process which I think is engine warm and let it sit for 5 min before measuring. Also ensure ground is level. You definitely don't want to overfill by accident. That is a lot of oil and I might be a little worried.
