We can rebuild it...
We can rebuild it...
Ahoy thar mini mateys
I'm Lance and I've loved Minis since around '96 when I first got my license and started reading about what cars I wanted to own. A friend of mine got an old VW Bug and dune buggied it out and I liked it... I started looking at other "small euro" cars and came across the Mini. For some reason when I looked at it, it made me think of Clockwork Orange, Mr. Bean, Bowler hats, and other things that I found fun, interesting, or otherwise "nifty". I immediately wanted one.
Finding a vintage mini in BackwoodsWTFAmI-IsThatBanjoMusic? Georgia was pretty much impossible so the dream got shelved. Then I was in the army, then I got married, then divorced, yada yada, life. When the new Mini's came out, I wasn't in a place in life to own one yet... Well, I finally found that place.
I just recently picked up a 2009 MCS, auto with the paddle shifter steering wheel, red with the black roof, black bonnet stripes, tint. Otherwise stock, check interior, piano black dash. I loved it at first sight, I loved it deeper at first drive, and after I hit the sport button... sweet baby jesus, I own a mario kart! As much as I love it, I'm going to be 'tweaking' it in the future.
The plans are as such:
Stereo: It's got the generic "boost" system in it. I REALLY like the OEM look of the dash and don't want to change that so I'm hoping I can do the channel swap first then down the road upgrade the speakers, put in the tweeter A collumns and slap in an amp and small Sub. I'm ok with the deck being the way it is. I'm debating rewiring the AUX input or adding the IPOD/IPHONE connection so I can get better fidelity (the audio quality coming off my phone through an AUX jack is meh)
Interior: Unlikely that I'll make many changes beyond the stereo. I'm not a fan of the piano black so I may either carbon fiber vinyl wrap those parts or order replacements. The cloth check seats will stay until they start to get nappy or worn at which point I'll most likely get the JCW red and black leather (this should be at least a couple years down the road). Otherwise... I'm pretty pleased with the clean, easy interior. I do wish the dash lights were red instead of orange but the orange is nice too.
Exterior: First upgrade will be either 17 or 18inch wheels with a flat black finish. After that, I plan to do some vinyl work. Replace the bonnet stripes with carbon fiber vinyl, carbon fiber all the chrome, black the exhaust tips and smoke my glass.
The stereo is going to be my first project, I made a post in the 2nd gen/mods/electrical forum regarding that but I don't think the sub forums get a lot of action so if anyone is an experienced mini stereo tuner and doesn't mind doing a little mentor work with me, please shoot me a message
I'm happy to be here, hope I can meet up with some of the folks in my local area, and am lookin forward to chatting with you all.
This is her.
