West Texas Mini
West Texas Mini
After 5 years of looking and my 1990 Honda Civic going to my nephew to attend college . I am the proud owner of a 2012 Lighting Blue MC-S with the Texas flag wraped on the roof. I drive 90 miles round trip. So the Blue tooth and Ipod connection get lots of use. I am the envy of everyone in the parking lot.
I do want to replace the runflats with non runflats when the time comes and have heard you can buy a "doughnut tire" at wally world that can get you to the next tire shop.
I have also heard you can run reg gas if you use an STP like additive every 3 or so tanks.
Any input would be a help. LMM

Don't run regular gas.
If you have an S, Mini recommends Super Premium 91 octane or higher. Mini's minimum requirement is 87 octane.
These are high performance engines with a high compression ratio and tight tolerances. If you run less than 87 octane gas you will get early detonation, knocks and eventual engine damage.
Plus since the engines are direct injection, you need the better detergent fuels to keep down carbon deposits and eventual power loss.
In the long run your engine will last longer, get better mileage, and perform better with Super Premium Fuel > 91 octane.

Changing to non run flat tires

I have decided to run Premium after reading the threads. Now what about going to non runflats. I just do not like the options in runflats and they are a little pricey!
Thanks for helping a new guy.
