Hi everyone, just got an '03 MCS w/ JCW kit

Hello everyone.

I come from '80s VW's and '90s Audi's; I got hooked on Mini Coopers at work (used car dealership).

A couple days ago I picked up a 2003 Mini Cooper S with a JCW kit and 119k miles.

I'm trying to learn about what the kit all includes on my car, because it seems like the JCW edition didn't exist as anything but a dealer install kit. So hopefully I can figure out what I've got and go from there.

Eventually I'll be looking at some suspension upgrades and maybe some engine mods, but that's not for a good amount of time.

Welcome!

You can always stop by a dealership and give them your VIN for package info and service records.

Most likely your Works car has the following (mine does, and it's a dealer installed '04):
1. a slightly improved head (a bit of porting)
2. a slightly smaller supercharger pulley (12%, right folks?)
3. a slightly different tune (to take advantage of the previous)
4. a couple of nice little badges (if the owner had them installed)
5. "John Cooper Works" branding on the intercooler, where everyone can see it with the hood open...

The promise was 200+ HP from that kit - at the flywheel.

Cheers,

Charlie

Thanks Charlie.

Do you happen to know where I could start with engine upgrades/enhancements? I know there's a section for modifications, but it seems tough to tell what would apply to the JCW edition vs just an S.

Not trying to abuse your enthusiasm, but I'd start with a leak-down test from a competent shop.

If you are fortunate enough to have no outstanding maintenance items, then going shopping for mods makes sense...

Cheers,

Charlie

Fortunately I work at a BMW dealership, so getting a leak down test should be no problem. The car seems to pull pretty well, but everyone always wants more.
