MCS Recall

HI,

Has anyone had their MCS recalled yet for the potential fire risk problem to be sorted.

Check the MINIs in General part of the forum--- there's a lot of chatter happening now.

Thanks.

I should have guessed this would probably be a hot topic elsewhere on the forum.

Still finding my way around the website.

Yeah, my friends in the UK sent me links. I actually called the Customer Service number, which I would give you--- but, eh, they're all in the USA (lot of good that would do you).

Look for the customer service number in your manual and they were really helpful for me. I have a 2005 S, so I'm not part of the recall but it doesn't help when your friends are being asses and bothering you about things. Found out that I have a 100,000 mile warranty on the O2 sensor.

The sticker under the hood (bonnet) shows my MCS as being built in February 2011.

The news here in the UK suggests that the problem goes up to January 2011 build.

There is no way of knowing if there is a magic cut-off point on January 31st so I will be contacting my dealer just to be on the safe side.

This doesn't stop me driving it like it should be - talk about a "hot" hatch!

Not that sticker, the service sticker, with the phone number.... call their service group and they will be able to look up your Mini and direct you accordingly they'll ask your for your Vehicle Identification Number (I'm not part of the recall but they updated my contact information...) There should also likely be a Mini Customer Service number in the Owners Manual... I had one in the boot near the battery--- and the car jack... LOL. It seems that a lot of people are saying that they will send you a letter and once you have the letter in hand then the dealership will service your vehicle.

My dealer has all of the car's details as it was their demonstrator for 6 months.

I will call them tomorrow to see if mine needs to be checked out.

I only mentioned the under hood sticker as it shows the build date as Feb 2011.

With luck this takes it just outside the recall period.

BMW UK say that that there have no incidents of cars catching fire over here.

One of our newspapers thinks otherwise and says that there are reports of at least 6.

The UK Vehicle Standards Agency is reported as being in the process of investigating 2 serious occurrences.
