turbo heat shield

I was wondering about the turbo heat shields. I have a new 2012 JCW conv which just arrived in Port Hueneme today. Should I put a heat shield on my list of things to get. Also any preference as to which one? Thanks

I believe it has one. But I think there are better ones on the market.

Unless you ordered a dealer-installed chrome hood scoop, you will have no hood scoop heat shield on your car when it is delivered. I ordered the OEM shield from OutMotoring... the stealerships wanted $20 more. The turbo of course has a heat shield installed from the factory. Some people have installed after-market units over the turbo but I don't have any reason to..

Hey Walk, you said, "you will have no hood scoop heat shield on your car when it is delivered" then you said "The turbo of course has a heat shield installed from the factory". I don't understand.

All turbos come with a heat shield. There are better ones on the market though.

The turbo is wrapped in a metal heat shield from the factory. You can get an additional shield like this if you wanted:

The plastic hood scoops can warp due to the turbo heat, so there is a heat shield you can retrofit that attaches to the underside of the hood. This is the product I ordered which is the same as can be ordered from the dealership:

I'm still not sure what the hood scoop shield is for. I thought the turbo heat shield was to keep the hood scoop from melting.

Mine is a NM Engineering shield and I like it. Have had no problems with it and it fit perfect.

Walk, what is your experience with the Hoën Endurance Yellow Fog Lights, are they a lot better than the fogs you get from the factory. Is there a model number to order? Is it just a bulb replace. Thanks Doug

The fogs look pretty decent. They are just an H8 bulb replacement.

As they are the same wattage as stock, they are the same brightness... which is to say they don't do a whole lot, but I haven't seen much fog to really try them out. It is more of a looks thing. My JCW has xenons which are great... my previous MINI had plain halogen and the fog lights actually helped with pothole visibility around the city.
