instead of a pickup truck

So I was at Carmax to test drive pickup trucks in search of a replacement for the '92 F150 that was in the final gasps of giving up the ghost after 268+K miles. But somehow I drove away in a 2011 Countryman S with a hair over 6000 miles on it. I kind did it as a joke - I'd been telling my kids for years that I was gonna get a Mini and then we'd always laugh it off. But Carmax has a 5-day 100% money back guarantee which amounts to a 5-day test-drive. So I figured, "What the hell. Spoof on the boys and actually show up in a Mini." I'd drive it for a few days, go back, turn in the keys and drive out with the '08 King Ranch F150 Crew Cab I'd already scoped out.

But now, 2-weeks later I'm still sportin' around town in my Mini CM-S and only occasionally aching for that 8ft open truck bed. The rest of the time I've just got a big grin on my face as I zip past...well...darn near everything on the road! Dang, this thing is fun to drive.

And it's much easier to hire-out the gravel hauling!

Hopefully the Countryman gets better mileage compared to any truck you would have gotten. With the savings in gas money you can rent a truck when you have to. Meanwhile you'll be enjoying every curve in your Countryman.

For a MINI owner, fun isn't just around the corner. Fun is the corner.

Great story!

I came from an F-150 Supercrew and also only occasionally wish I still had it. But then I think: "I wonder how many times I've gotten out of being asked to help someone move!"

We're lovin' our MINs. Heck my wife wouldn't even consider anything else when she needed something with a little more room than the first Cooper we had. She ended up with a Clubman as well.

Ha! Now I don't feel so bad. I'm parting with my 99 dodga Dakota which runs like a dream. I'm sad and excited at the same time. But I did some searching and figure if I need to I can get a hitch and 4x8 trailer for the countyman for about 500. But I'm def looking fwd to hiring out the hauling in the short term.
